IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SCHEME – ‘SUPPORT FOR MECHANISATION OF FARM OPERATIONS’ DURING 2011-12 BY THE COFFEE BOARD

31st October 2011.

The scheme on ‘Support for Mechanization of Farm Operations’ is aimed at encouraging the coffee growers to use farm machineries in carrying out crucial farm operations in a timely manner particularly in the context of shortage of labour, so as to improve labour efficiency and productivity. Some of the critical operations like weeding, pruning of coffee plants and shade trees, new planting/replanting, soil management, spraying for control of pests and diseases, harvesting etc. are highly labour intensive and need to be taken up in a timely manner. The use of machinery not only helps in improving the efficiency of farm operations but also ensures timely completion of critical operations, besides improving the overall quality of farm operations.

The scale of subsidy applicable to coffee growers upto 20 Ha. holdings is 50% subject to a ceiling of Rs. 2.00 lakhs, for coffee growers above 20 ha. holdings is 25% subject to a ceiling of Rs. 4.50 lakhs and for SHGs/Collectives of small growers is 50% subject to a ceiling of Rs. 5.00 lakhs.

The machineries which are eligible for subsidy includes Weed/Brush cutter, Telescopic Pruner, Pit Digger, Hand held, Battery operated coffee harvester, Sprayer, Chain saw, Power tiller, Mini tractor, Mini transporter/rubberized track carrier.
