• Conducted Press Tour to visit important social welfare development programmes especially Aganwadi centres and different development projects implemented under Rural Development Department, Government of Mizoram. The places visited are under Ngopa, Khawbung, Khawzawl, Champhai and Aizawl areas. The Press Tour was conducted during March 5 – 13 , 1997. Ten journalists including AIO, PIB, Aizawl visited the said places.
• Conducted Press tour to Mumbai and Pune during November 30 –10th December, 1997. Seven journalists were in the Press Team.
• 3) Mizoram journalists and Economic Writers regularly attended Economic Editors Conference at New Delhi under the sponsorship of PIB.

During November 5-7, 1996 two Economic writers namely Dr. Lianzela and Shri Lalrinthanga attended this conference.

In 1997, during September 10-12, the following journalists/editors attended :- Shri Robert Lalchhuana (Romei), Shri D.R. Zirliana (Mizo Aw) and Shri K. Sapdanga (Vanglaini).

A Press Tour to Udaipur, Rajashthan was arranged for these journalists during September 13-16, 1997.

In 1999, Novermber 17-20, the following persons attended the said economic Editors Conference : - Dr. Vanlalchhawna, Shri Lalsawta and Shri C Lalrambuatsaiha. In 2000, two editors namely – H.Tawna Langel, Editor “Zokhua Daily” and A.Zotinkhuma, Editor, ‘Thubenglut’ monthly attended the Economic Editors Conference from October 16-18th , 2000 at National Press Centre, PIB, New Delhi.

Shri Zonunsanga Khiangte, Editor, ‘Lenlaini daily’ and Mangjangam Touthang, AIO, PIB, Aizawl attended the 2nd Editors Conference in Social Sector Issues – 2000 during 6-8th April, 2000 at Kaniska Hotel, New Delhi. This is the first time representatives from Mizoram were attending this conference.

PIB, Aizawl also arranged Video Conferencing for three times with the local media representatives providing and interaction opportunity with other parts of India during the last parliamentary election - 1999.

PIB, Aizawl regularly contributes developmental feature stories, etc. The feature story based on the Interview with Shri Darthawma Renthlei, the lone surviving freedom fighter from Mizoram by AIO, PIB, Aizawl has been included in the book entitled “Freedom Fighter of India” published by the Publication Division, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, New Delhi.

PIB, Aizawl regularly provides publicity materials to local press, Govt. media and also to concern departments. This office is now equipped with internet facility, Press Conference Hall, Library-cum-Information Centre, a Press Lounge, etc.

PIB, Aizawl received the Second Prize for being the cleanest office in Aizawl, Mizoram.

Media Workshop on Rural Development was jointly organised by Department of Rural Development and PIB, Aizawl on 8.02.2001, at PIB Media Centre. About fifty journalists from various parts of Mizoram participated in the Media Workshop. Director, I & PR, representatives from Central media and Rural Development project implementing authorities attended the Workshop. The resource persons were :
 

A ten member team of journalists from Aizawl,Mizoram visited Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands under the sponsorship of Ministry of Rural Development.The Press Team left Aizawl on 23.05.2001, but due to cancellation of Aizawl-Kolkata flight, the team returned back to Aizawl and left for Kolkata the next day on 24.05.2001 by Aizawl-Kolkata flight.The Team halt at Kolkata on 24th & 25th May 2001 and left for Port Blair on 26.05.2001.The Press Team halt at Port Blair from 26th & 27th May 2001 and reach back Aizawl on 30-05-2001.

During their stay in Port Blair, the Press Team visited a Model Village at Gupta Pada adopted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK)/CARI and had interaction with the beneficiaries of various integrated Rural Development projects/programmes, Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park at Wandoor and Red Skin Island, Cellular Jail, Ross Island, Water Sports Complex, etc. The Press party also call on Shri N.N.Jha, Lt. In Kolkata, the Press Team visited Nicco Park, Science city, National Museum, Metro Railways and also meet Dr. Surya Kanta Mishra, Minister for Rural Development, West Bengal. This visit was organised with the help of PIB Kolkata.

Press Information Bureau, Aizawl office was awarded 1st Prize in Cleanliness Competition 2002, AIO, PIB, Aizawl received a Citation and Rs. 3000/- on behalf of the office at a function organised by Government of Mizoram.

EX-GRATIA RELIEF DISTRIBUTED TO FAMILIES OF THREE JOURNALISTS

An ex-gratia relief of Rupees One Lakh each was handed over to the families of three journalists from Mizoram by Shri Mangjangam Touthang, Press Officer at the PIB Media Centre on 16th February, 2005. The amount was received by Smt. Lalthanzami, w/o Shri Vanlaltluanga (L) Editor, Zoram Thlirtu Mizo Daily, Smt Helen Zopari w/o Shri R.L. Rina (L) Editor, Hunthar Mizo Daily, and Smt Zathangpuii w/o Shri Zothanpuia (L), Joint Editor, Highlander English Daily.
